A complete clinical hour — proper time for assessment, proper time for explanation, and a tailored plan to take home.
Our London clinic sits inside the Harley Street medical district at 57a Wimpole Street — the most respected concentration of private healthcare in the UK. The standard our central-London patients expect from a private audiologist is exactly what we deliver: unhurried appointments, thorough diagnostic work from experienced hearing specialists, and an honest, independent recommendation.
Every hearing test at our Wimpole Street clinic is a full hour-long diagnostic — there's no five-minute screening here. The appointment includes case history, otoscopy (with our ENT-grade microscope where helpful), a full pure-tone audiogram and a clear results discussion in plain English. Where your audiologist judges them helpful, additional diagnostic tests — tympanometry, acoustic reflex and speech testing — are available.

Frequently asked questions
London Hearing Test — Your Questions Answered
How much does a hearing test cost in London?
A full hour-long diagnostic hearing test at our Wimpole Street clinic is £100. That includes case history, otoscopy, a complete pure-tone audiogram (air and bone conduction), a clear results discussion and a tailored management plan — with any ENT referral included in the fee. Additional tests — tympanometry, acoustic reflex or speech testing (£120) — are available where clinically indicated, quoted on top.
What does the hearing test include?
Your £100 consultation includes a detailed hearing history, an otoscopic ear health check, pure-tone audiometry in a sound-proof booth, an eardrum-health examination, a full discussion of your audiogram and a tailored hearing-loss management plan. If hearing aids are right for you, we explain your options across all seven leading brands. If we find something that needs ENT or specialist input, we refer you on with a clinical letter.
Will I get my results the same day?
Yes. Your audiologist explains your results during the appointment, walks you through your audiogram and gives you a personalised plan the same day. You leave knowing exactly how your hearing is and what your options are.
How long does the appointment take?
A full hour. We don't rush. The audiogram itself takes roughly 20 minutes; the rest is spent on the conversation that makes the difference — the history, the results explanation, and the tailored plan that follows.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. Private audiology in the UK is a self-referral specialty, so you can book directly with us. If your results suggest an onward ENT referral is sensible, we'll write that referral on your behalf to your GP or chosen consultant.
How do I know if I need a hearing test?
Common early signs of hearing loss include asking people to repeat themselves, struggling to follow conversation in noisy rooms or restaurants, finding the TV volume too low when others find it loud, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), or family members mentioning your hearing before you do. Sudden one-sided hearing loss is a medical urgency — please book straight in or seek an immediate ENT review.
What if my hearing test shows I need hearing aids?
We talk you through your options across the seven leading hearing aid brands — Phonak, Starkey, Oticon, Widex, ReSound, Unitron and Signia — with our honest recommendation for your specific hearing loss and lifestyle. Every hearing aid fitting includes a free, no-obligation 30-day home trial.
What if you find wax during my appointment?
We'll discuss it. Significant wax can affect both the test and your day-to-day hearing, so we'll usually recommend microsuction ear wax removal first — then either test you the same day if time allows, or rebook you. Microsuction at our London clinic is £80.
I have tinnitus — can the hearing test help?
Yes. A full hearing test is the first step in understanding tinnitus, because the vast majority of tinnitus is linked to a change in hearing. We can pick up the underlying cochlear pattern and explain how it relates to what you are experiencing. For dedicated tinnitus management, see our London tinnitus clinic — a £100 appointment focused entirely on a bespoke tinnitus management plan.
Does private medical insurance cover this?
Yes — UK private medical insurers (Bupa, AXA, Cigna, Vitality, WPA, Aetna, Aviva, Healix and others) cover consultations and diagnostic audiology testing. Many of our London patients are referred to us by an ENT specialist and we bill the insurer directly. Note that insurance does not cover hearing aids themselves — those are paid for separately. See our insurance page.
Which audiologist will see me?
At our London clinic your appointment will be with Nick Clive, Mo Khan, Tim Johnson or Agnieszka Blasiak — all HCPC-registered. Nick (Chief of Audiology) is most often the clinician you'll see at Wimpole Street day-to-day. We can usually accommodate a request for a specific clinician when you book.
Will you try to sell me hearing aids?
No. We don't work for manufacturers, we work for you. If your test shows that hearing aids would genuinely help, we'll explain why and walk you through the options across all seven leading brands. If hearing aids wouldn't help, we'll tell you that too. The recommendation is always clinical, never commercial.
I'm not in central London — should I still come?
Wimpole Street is one of the easiest places in London to reach by tube — Bond Street is 5 minutes' walk away, Regent's Park 7 minutes, Oxford Circus 8 minutes. Many of our London patients come from across the city and the home counties. We also run clinics in Eastcote and Brentwood if either is closer for you.
