Audiologist in London

Expert Audiology Care You Can Count On

Are you looking for a reputable and experienced audiologist in London? If the answer is yes, you’ve come to the right place. At VIP Hearing Solutions, our team of audiologists have over 40 years of combined experience helping patients find a long-term solution to their hearing and ear problems.

We know that hearing is essential for having great quality of life, and our mission as one of London’s premier ear clinics is to provide comprehensive and compassionate care tailored to the specific needs of each patient. So, if you’re considering starting or continuing your hearing journey with us, here is an overview of our areas of expertise and how we can help you.

Comprehensive Hearing Assessments

Our primary service is carrying out comprehensive hearing assessments. We do those for an array of patients every single day. The reason being is that a comprehensive hearing test allows our audiologists to determine whether you have hearing loss, and if you do, an idea of what has caused it to begin with and how severe it is. Some of the hearing tests that we use at our ear clinic in London include:

  • Pure Tone Audiometry (Clinical Hearing Test)
  • Tympanometry
  • Acoustic Reflex
  • Speech Audiometry

Once the results from the hearing assessments are established, the audiologist who will be handling your case will review them and determine the best course of action. This can include having additional hearing tests, getting hearing aids, or undergoing one of our procedures, which we’ll talk about in the sections below.

Hearing Aid Consultation and Fitting

If you know or have been told by your London audiologist that you need hearing aids, at VIP Hearing Solutions, our hearing aid consultation and fitting service follows a comprehensive process to ensure that:

  • You get the correct type of hearing aid
  • You find your hearing aid comfortable
  • You know how to use and maintain your hearing aid
  • You have access to all of the information you need

When you walk into your audiologists office, the first thing they’ll do is have a chat with you, review the results of your hearing assessment, and walk you through the different hearing aid options that you can choose from.

As a fully independent audiology clinic, we are not affiliated with any hearing aid manufacturer. As a result, we will always act in the interest of our patients and recommend them the hearing aid that best suits their hearing problem and lifestyle. Some of the different hearing aids that we offer include:

  • Completely in the Canal (CIC)
  • In the Canal (ITC)
  • Half-Shell in the Ear
  • Full-Shell in the Ear
  • Behind the Ear (BTE)
  • CROS
  • BICROS

Once you’ve chosen the most suitable hearing aid for you, we’ll order it for you. If it requires a mould of your ear canal, we’ll take that during your appointment. Once your hearing aid arrives at our clinic, we will book you in for a fitting appointment. This is when your audiologist will fit the hearing aid, make sure that you find it comfortable, and that you are equipped with all of the information you need to make the most of it.

Tinnitus Management

Ringing, buzzing, and hissing sounds in one or both of your ears indicates that you may have tinnitus. This condition often affects your hearing and can significantly reduce your quality of life if it’s not treated or managed properly.

At VIP Hearing Solutions, one of our areas of expertise lies in managing tinnitus and helping our patients live a better and far more fulfilling life, which isn’t negatively affected by a condition that’s affecting more than 7.6% of the UK population.

To do that, we first need to determine the cause for your tinnitus. In some cases, tinnitus can be temporary as a result of exposure to loud noises, ear infections, or certain medications. Once the cause for your temporary tinnitus is identified, we’ll work with you until your hearing is back to normal.

If your tinnitus is permanent, don’t lose hope. There is a lot that can be done to mitigate your symptoms. Some of the treatment options that will be available to you include hearing aids, sound generators, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), tinnitus retraining therapy, and in cases where physical damage to your ear is causing the issue, surgery.

Ear Wax Removal Services

If the issues you’re experiencing with your hearing or ear are caused due to the build-up of excessive wax, our audiologists can help you remove it and restore your hearing and ear health back to normal. To do that, we use the latest and most popular ear wax removal technique known as microsuction.

This technique is highly effective, completely painless, and is regarded as one of the safest for ear cleaning. It is considered the gold-standard of ear wax removal in the United Kingdom. The way this technique works is very simple. Your audiologist will have you sit down comfortably and using a suction tool, they will remove all excessive ear wax from your ear canals. After successfully removing the wax, they will assess the health of your eardrums and provide further advice on how to manage your ears.

Hearing Protection and Conservation

The best way to delay an early onset of hearing loss is to protect your hearing before it begins to deteriorate. This is especially important for people who are regularly exposed to loud noises, which is one of the primary reasons for premature hearing loss.

At VIP Hearing Solutions, we can give you the right tools and information that will help you preserve your hearing and enjoy it for decades to come. To do that, our first line of defence would be carrying out an audiometric hearing assessment. That way, we will set a baseline for your hearing and see how the results you get today will compare to the results a few years from now.

Once the hearing test is done and your audiologist knows a little bit more about you, they can give you specific instructions based on your lifestyle. For example, if you work in a loud environment, they may recommend that you invest in some high quality custom hearing protection, such as earplugs or earmuffs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Every audiologist is different. At VIP Hearing Solutions, our audiologists specialise in a large variety of audiological services including:

  • Carrying out comprehensive hearing tests
  • Hearing aid consultation and fitting
  • Tinnitus management
  • Hearing protection and conservation
  • Ear wax removal

That way, whether you’re dealing with hearing loss, tinnitus, or have other auditory concerns, we have the experience, expertise, and the equipment to provide adequate and tailored solutions to your hearing problems.

Regular hearing tests are important, whether you have pre-existing hearing problems or not. Generally speaking, the frequency at which we advise that you have a hearing test will depend on your age group.

If you’re aged between 18 and 50 and haven’t noticed that your hearing is getting any worse, having a hearing test every three to five years is generally recommended. That will help you establish a baseline and catch any gradual decline in your hearing before it gets any worse. If you’re over the age of 50, we advise that you have a hearing test approximately every two years.

That being said, if you work in a loud environment or have been experiencing any symptoms to do with your hearing or ears, we recommend that you have your hearing checked more often than the proposed time frames above.

When you walk through our audiology clinic in London, you’ll be called into the office of one of our audiologists. The first thing they’ll do is have a chat with you. They’ll ask you questions about your hearing and learn more about you and the concerns that you have. Then, they’ll briefly examine your ears before proceeding with the hearing test.

At our London audiology clinic, we use audiometric hearing assessments as our standard hearing test, which is the gold standard in the UK. This hearing test is completely pain free and uses an audiometer, which plays sounds at various volumes and frequencies. The results are recorded on an audiogram, which will visualise your hearing thresholds and help identify the type and degree of hearing loss (if any).

This test will typically last approximately 30 minutes and if no further testing is required, your audiologist will recommend to you the most appropriate solution for your particular case.

Following your hearing assessment, based on the results, your audiologist will let you know if you need a hearing aid or not. That being said, in most cases, patients already know if their hearing is impacted and that if the cause isn’t ear wax or a temporary condition, the next solution in line would be a hearing aid.

If you’re yet to have a hearing test, some of the most common indicators, which may suggest that you need a hearing aid include:

  • You struggle with hearing in noisy environments
  • You frequently ask for repetitions
  • You constantly find yourself turning up the volume
  • You can hear ringing, buzzing, or hissing sounds in one or both ears
  • You have difficulty hearing people when speaking on the phone

The above are just some common examples. Everyone’s case of hearing loss is different so it’s important that you have your hearing tested by an experienced audiologist. Only then can you be 100% sure that you need a hearing aid or if there is an alternative treatment or procedure that can restore your hearing.
