Your Eastcote hearing test
Two Expert Routes — Whichever Suits You
A short, clinician-led check for peace of mind — or a full diagnostic assessment when you want the complete picture.
Our Eastcote clinic on Field End Road has been a quiet hearing-care landmark in this part of north-west London for years. Patients come to us from Eastcote, Pinner, Ruislip, Northwood, Hatch End and across the Harrow and Hillingdon boroughs because we do things properly — unhurried, considered, and entirely independent of the hearing aid manufacturers.
We've designed two genuine pathways into hearing care. The free 30-minute screening is exactly that — a free, no-obligation appointment with a HCPC-registered audiologist who actually examines your ears and assesses your hearing, so you walk out knowing whether anything has changed. The full hour-long diagnostic assessment is for when you want a complete clinical audiogram, an in-depth eardrum examination and a tailored management plan.
The two pathways
Free 30-Minute Screening — or Full £40 Diagnostic
The short version: the screening answers the question "has anything changed?" in proper clinical detail. The full assessment answers "what exactly is the picture, and what should we do about it?" Not sure which is right? Call us on 020 8866 6700 and we'll talk it through with you.

You leave with that answer, and nothing else.

- Otoscopic examination of each ear canal & eardrum
- A clinical screening test to flag any change in hearing
- Honest advice on whether a full diagnostic is worth booking

Comprehensive hearing assessment
The Full Hour-Long Clinical Picture
When you want a complete clinical audiogram, a thorough ear-health examination and a tailored management plan, this is the appointment to book. Many patients choose to come straight to the full assessment — particularly if you've noticed a clear change in your hearing, have a family history of hearing loss, or want a definitive baseline.
- Detailed case history & lifestyle review
- Full pure-tone audiogram (air & bone conduction)
- Otoscopic ear examination — ENT-grade microscope where needed
- A clear results discussion in plain English
- A personalised plan — and any ENT referral included in your £40 fee
- Additional tests — tympanometry, acoustic reflex, speech testing (£120) — where clinically indicated, quoted on top.
What you can expect
A Proper Clinical Standard — Whichever Route You Choose
Every Eastcote hearing appointment, screening or full diagnostic, includes the same clinical fundamentals: a fully-credentialed audiologist, calibrated equipment, an unhurried atmosphere and the honesty you'd expect from a clinic that doesn't work for the manufacturers. Here's what's standard at our Field End Road clinic.
- HCPC-registered audiologistTim Johnson, Ewa Kozlowska, Nick Clive or Agnieszka Blasiak — fully credentialed clinicians, regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Ear-canal & eardrum examinationA careful otoscopic check — and our ENT-grade clinical microscope if anything needs a closer look.
- Calibrated audiometric testingPure-tone audiometry on equipment that is calibrated to clinical standards — not a quick app-based check.
- Plain-English resultsYour audiogram explained the way you'd want it explained — no jargon, no fear-tactic charts.
- Onward referrals if neededIf anything we see warrants an ENT consultation, we'll write the referral directly to your GP or consultant.
- No sales pressure — everIndependent of all seven leading hearing aid manufacturers. We tell you the clinical truth; what you do next is entirely your decision.
Your appointment, step by step
What Happens On The Day
A clear, unhurried sequence. Whether you book the free 30-minute screening or the full hour-long diagnostic, every appointment follows the same clinical structure — we simply spend longer on each stage when you book the full assessment.
- Welcome & case historyYou arrive, settle in, and your audiologist takes you through your hearing concerns, your daily listening world, your medical and family history, and any tinnitus, dizziness or ear-related symptoms.
- Ear-health examinationOtoscopy on each ear — a careful look at the canal and eardrum — using our clinical microscope where a closer view is helpful. Wax is identified and discussed before testing.
- Hearing testFor the screening: a focused pure-tone check across the most important speech frequencies. For the full diagnostic: a complete pure-tone audiogram (air and bone conduction). Where clinically indicated, additional tests such as tympanometry or acoustic reflex testing may also be carried out.
- Results & clear explanationYour results are talked through with you in plain English — no jargon. You see exactly where your hearing sits and we explain what it means for everyday life.
- Your personalised planIf everything is normal, we say so honestly. If a full diagnostic is warranted, we'll book it. If hearing aids would help, we'll talk through your options. If an ENT referral is needed, we'll write it for you.

Frequently asked questions
Eastcote Hearing Test — Your Questions Answered
Is the free 30-minute hearing screening really free?
Yes — entirely. There is no fee, no obligation to book anything else, and no sales pressure during or after the appointment. The screening is offered because we want local Eastcote patients to have an easy, clinician-led way to check their hearing without committing to a full diagnostic upfront. If everything sounds normal, we say so honestly and you've cost yourself nothing but 30 minutes. If a fuller test would help, we'll explain why and you can decide.
What's the difference between the screening and the £40 full assessment?
The free 30-minute screening is a focused clinical check — history, otoscopy and a pure-tone screening across the most important speech-frequency ranges. It answers "has anything changed?"
The full hour-long £40 diagnostic includes a complete pure-tone audiogram (air and bone conduction), a deeper ear-health examination using our ENT-grade microscope where helpful, a clear results discussion, and a written tailored plan. It answers "what exactly is the picture, and what should we do?"
How much is a hearing test in Eastcote?
Two pathways at our Eastcote clinic. The free 30-minute hearing screening costs nothing — a quick, no-obligation check of your hearing. The full one-hour diagnostic assessment is £40, including detailed hearing history, otoscopic examination, pure-tone audiometry, eardrum examination, a tailored management plan and any onward ENT referral. Additional tests — tympanometry, acoustic reflex or speech testing (£120) — are quoted separately where clinically indicated.
Do I need a hearing test or screening first?
If you are unsure whether you have hearing loss at all, start with the free screening. If you already know your hearing has changed, or if you are considering hearing aids, the full £40 assessment is the right starting point — it gives the audiogram needed to prescribe.
How long does the appointment take?
30 minutes for the free hearing screening; a full hour for the £40 diagnostic assessment.
Will I get my results the same day?
Yes — your audiologist explains your results during the appointment and gives you a personalised plan the same day.
Can I book the same day?
We aim to offer a same-day appointment where possible — and where not, within the same week. Call us on 020 8866 6700 or email hear@viphearingsolutions.co.uk and we'll find a time that suits.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No — you can book directly with us. Private audiology in the UK is a self-referral specialty, so you're welcome to call us straight away. If your results suggest an onward ENT referral is sensible, we'll write that referral directly to your GP or chosen consultant on your behalf.
Which audiologist will see me?
At our Eastcote clinic, your appointment will be with Tim Johnson, Ewa Kozlowska, Nick Clive or Agnieszka Blasiak — all HCPC-registered. Tim is most often the clinician you'll see at Eastcote day-to-day; Ewa is our resident Senior Audiologist; Nick visits across all three of our clinics. We can usually accommodate a request for a specific audiologist when you book — just ask.
What if you find wax during my appointment?
We'll discuss it with you. Wax that's significantly blocking the canal can affect both the test and your day-to-day hearing, so we'll usually recommend microsuction ear wax removal first — then either test you that day if time allows, or rebook you for free. Microsuction at our Eastcote clinic is £80, and you'll get clear advice before we proceed.
Will you try to sell me hearing aids?
No. We're independent — we don't work for manufacturers, we work for you. If your test shows that hearing aids would genuinely help, we'll explain why and walk you through the options across all seven leading brands (Phonak, Starkey, Oticon, Widex, ReSound, Unitron and Signia). If hearing aids wouldn't help, we'll tell you that too. The recommendation is always clinical, never commercial.
What if I want hearing aids — what happens next?
Hearing aids at VIP Hearing Solutions start from £3,295 per pair for premium devices and include a free, no-obligation 30-day home trial plus a VIP Clinical Care aftercare package (2-, 3- or 5-year options). See hearing aids in Eastcote for the full picture, or hearing aid prices for an overview.
I have tinnitus — can the hearing test help?
Yes. A full hearing test is the first step in understanding tinnitus. For dedicated tinnitus management, see our Eastcote tinnitus clinic — £100, including hearing test.
How do I know if I need a hearing test?
Common early signs of hearing loss include asking people to repeat themselves, struggling in noisy rooms or restaurants, finding the TV too low when others find it loud, ringing in the ears, or family members noticing your hearing before you do. If any of these sound familiar, a free hearing screening is a natural first step.
I'm not in Eastcote — should I still come?
Many of our patients travel from across north-west London and the Harrow, Hillingdon and Three Rivers boroughs because our Eastcote clinic is well located: a short walk from Eastcote tube, paid parking on the door, and easy access from Pinner, Ruislip, Northwood, Rayners Lane, Hatch End, Harrow, Stanmore and Edgware. If you'd rather visit our London clinic on Wimpole Street, that's also an option — see hearing test in London.
