Tinnitus management in London

Tinnitus Has An Honest Answer — And It Starts With Being Heard

Tinnitus has real, proven answers. With a structured, evidence-based approach we can steadily reduce how loud, intrusive and stressful it feels — and help you take back the quiet.

Tinnitus — the perception of ringing, buzzing, whooshing or humming in the ears or head when no external sound is present — affects roughly 1 in 7 adults. For most it's mild and intermittent; for some it is genuinely life-altering. The first thing we do at our Wimpole Street tinnitus clinic is take it seriously and take the time to understand exactly what your tinnitus is doing.

As tinnitus specialists working within the Harley Street medical district, our approach is structured, evidence-based and unhurried. We don't promise miracle cures — there aren't any. What we do deliver is a clear understanding of your tinnitus, practical strategies that genuinely reduce its impact, and a long-term relationship with an audiologist who can adjust the plan as your tinnitus changes. Because we sit within the Harley Street medical district, our onward-referral network — to ENT, audiovestibular medicine and hearing therapy — is unusually strong.

The clinical approach

Our 4-Pillar Tinnitus Management Programme

Every London tinnitus appointment is built around four pillars — they're what gives the programme its structure and what makes it genuinely effective.

Pillar One

Comprehensive Assessment

Full pure-tone audiogram, tinnitus pitch & loudness matching, masking-level testing and a structured tinnitus impact questionnaire — so we know exactly what we're working with.

Pillar Two

Education & Counselling

Understanding why your brain is producing the sound — and why understanding alone often reduces tinnitus distress. We talk through the neuroscience in plain English.

Pillar Three

Sound Therapy & Hearing Aids

Practical interventions — bedside maskers, app-based sound therapy, and where hearing loss is contributing, modern hearing aids with built-in tinnitus features.

Pillar Four

Ongoing Care & Referrals

A long-term relationship with a clinician who knows your case. We refer into the Harley Street network — ENT, audiovestibular medicine or hearing therapy — when appropriate.

Transparent pricing

A Single, Clear Price For The Full Hour

One price covers the full hour-long tinnitus appointment — assessment, education, the management plan and any onward referrals. Hearing aids and follow-up appointments are quoted separately.

Frequently asked questions

London Tinnitus Clinic — Your Questions Answered

How much is a tinnitus appointment in London?

£100 for the full hour-long appointment at our Wimpole Street clinic. The fee is all-inclusive: tinnitus history, eardrum-health examination, full hearing test, tinnitus pitch and loudness matching where helpful, and your bespoke management plan. Onward care (hearing aids, masking devices, psychology referral) is quoted separately.

Can you cure my tinnitus?

What we can do is make a real, lasting difference to how much your tinnitus affects daily life. Tinnitus is rarely about the volume of the sound itself — it's about how loud, intrusive and stressful it feels, and our structured 4-pillar programme is designed to reduce exactly that. Many of our patients find that within a few months they barely notice their tinnitus — their brain has learned to filter it out — and they get their focus, calm and sleep back.

How is your approach different from being told to "live with it"?

"Live with it" is the most demoralising thing a tinnitus patient can hear. Our approach is the opposite: structured, evidence-based and active. Most of what we do is rooted in tinnitus retraining therapy and cognitive-behavioural approaches, both of which have decades of evidence.

What causes tinnitus?

Many possible causes — noise exposure, age-related hearing loss, ear wax, ear infections, certain medications, head or neck trauma, stress and (more rarely) underlying medical conditions. Part of your appointment is identifying which are at play for you and arranging onward referrals if a medical investigation is warranted.

Can hearing aids help my tinnitus?

Often, yes — particularly if your hearing test shows an underlying high-frequency loss. Well-fitted hearing aids restore the missing sound input and many also include built-in tinnitus sound therapy programmes. See our hearing aids in London page for the full range we fit.

What is sound enrichment?

Adding gentle background sound (a fan, running water, soft music, dedicated sound generators) to environments that would otherwise be very quiet. Silence is the worst environment for tinnitus — the brain has nothing else to attend to.

What are masking devices?

Small ear-worn devices that play a personalised low-volume sound to mask or distract from tinnitus. Many of the modern hearing aids we fit include built-in masking programmes.

How does psychology help with tinnitus?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for tinnitus has one of the strongest evidence bases in audiology. The therapy works on the brain's relationship to the tinnitus — how much attention it pays, how it interacts with sleep and stress.

Can ear wax cause tinnitus?

Yes — it is one of the more common reasons for new-onset tinnitus. Clearing the wax often clears the tinnitus too. Ear wax removal at our London clinic is £80, free follow-up if not cleared first time.

Does stress make tinnitus worse?

For most people, yes — markedly. Once you understand how stress and attention amplify tinnitus perception, you can start to break the cycle.

Does private medical insurance cover this?

Yes — most UK private medical insurers cover consultations and diagnostic audiology testing, which includes tinnitus assessments. Many of our London tinnitus patients are referred to us by an ENT specialist and we bill the insurer directly. See our insurance page.

Will I need follow-up appointments?

It depends on your plan. Many patients find that the single £100 appointment and bespoke plan are enough. Others benefit from a follow-up at 6–12 weeks to track progress and refine the plan.

Will you refer me to a specialist if needed?

Yes — without hesitation. If your assessment suggests you would benefit from ENT, audiovestibular medicine, neurology or psychological support, we'll write the referral directly to your GP or chosen consultant on the day. Our position inside the Harley Street medical district means our onward-referral network is unusually well-established.

What if my tinnitus has just started?

Come in. Sudden-onset tinnitus, especially with hearing change or vertigo, benefits from prompt clinical assessment — we'll examine you, test your hearing, and either start the management programme or refer to ENT urgently if anything warrants it.
