Bespoke Fittings From All Seven Leading Brands
A hearing aid is a sophisticated piece of medical technology — and the right one depends entirely on you. So we fit from the whole market.
At our Wimpole Street clinic we offer the complete range of premium hearing aids from Phonak, Starkey, Oticon, Widex, ReSound, Unitron and Signia. Because we're genuinely independent, our recommendation is based on which device best suits your hearing profile, your listening world and your budget — not on which manufacturer would prefer us to sell.
Every fitting at our London clinic begins with a comprehensive hearing assessment, includes a bespoke tuning process and a free 30-day home trial, and is followed by a VIP Clinical Care aftercare package — the standard 2-year Core plan, the 3-year Gold or our most popular 5-year Diamond.

Frequently asked questions
London Hearing Aids — Your Questions Answered
How are private hearing aids different from NHS hearing aids?
Both private and NHS hearing aids can be excellent — but they're optimised for different things. NHS hearing aids are typically behind-the-ear devices from a small, standardised range, fitted with limited appointment time. Private hearing aids give you the full range from all seven leading manufacturers, in every form factor (including invisible and Lyric), with bespoke tuning, unhurried appointments, and a long-term VIP Clinical Care relationship.
For a fuller comparison, see our NHS vs private hearing aids guide.
How much do private hearing aids cost at VIP London?
Premium hearing aids start at £3,295 per pair. That includes a bespoke fitting from any of the seven leading brands, a free 30-day home trial, and VIP Clinical Care aftercare (2-, 3- or 5-year). Essential and Advanced tier devices are available at lower price points.
What's the difference between Essential, Advanced and Premium hearing aids?
The chassis is similar; the difference is processing power. Essential handles quiet rooms and small groups beautifully. Advanced copes well with moderate background noise. Premium is class-leading in noisy environments — restaurants, meetings, social gatherings — thanks to the latest AI noise-reduction processing.
Does private medical insurance cover this?
Yes — UK private medical insurers (Bupa, AXA, Cigna, Vitality, WPA, Aetna, Aviva, Healix) cover consultations and diagnostic audiology testing. Many of our London patients are referred to us by an ENT specialist and we bill the insurer directly. Note that insurance does not cover hearing aids themselves — those are paid separately. See insurance.
Why is the 30-day home trial free?
Because a hearing aid that works beautifully in a quiet consulting room can feel completely different in your real life. The home trial is free because we want you to be entirely certain before you commit, and we'll fine-tune throughout the trial period.
Which hearing aid brands do you fit?
All seven of the leading manufacturers: Phonak, Starkey, Oticon, Widex, ReSound, Unitron and Signia. Because we don't work for any single manufacturer, we recommend the right brand and model for your hearing loss and lifestyle.
Which brand is best?
There is no single "best" brand — only the best brand for you. Phonak excels at speech-in-noise, Starkey at AI noise reduction, Oticon at brain-friendly hearing, Widex at musical naturalness, ReSound at connectivity, Unitron at tailored fitting, Signia at own-voice processing. Because we're independent, your audiologist will recommend the right brand for your hearing.
How long do hearing aids last?
A good pair of premium hearing aids typically lasts 5–7 years before the technology is meaningfully overtaken.
Are rechargeable hearing aids better than battery-powered?
For most patients, yes. Modern lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aids run for a full day on a single charge, recharge overnight, and remove the daily fiddle with tiny disposable batteries.
Do I need a hearing test before getting hearing aids?
Yes. A full diagnostic hearing test is the first step — we cannot prescribe hearing aids without a current audiogram. Our London hearing test is £100 for a thorough one-hour appointment.
Can hearing aids help with tinnitus?
Often, yes. Many people experience tinnitus because of an underlying high-frequency hearing loss, and well-fitted hearing aids restore the missing input. Most modern hearing aids also include built-in tinnitus sound therapy.
What does VIP Clinical Care actually include?
Each year of your plan you get a Comprehensive Annual Review (full hearing assessment, ear-health check, hearing aid service and retuning) and a Mid-Year Check-Up (ear health, deep clean and fine-tuning). Postal repairs and loan hearing aids during repairs are always included.
Do you offer invisible hearing aids?
Yes — at our London clinic we fit completely-in-canal (CIC), invisible-in-canal (IIC), and the entire range of extended-wear Phonak Lyric. See invisible hearing aids.
How long does a hearing aid fitting take?
A typical fitting is around 60 to 90 minutes — long enough to programme the aids precisely, demonstrate streaming, walk through cleaning and care, and answer all your questions. The fitting is followed by a 2-week follow-up to fine-tune based on real-world experience.
